Thunder Road!!

Come to a free screening of the cult classic "Thunder Road" which was filmed in Asheville and the surrounding area. Original cast member actress Betsy Holt will discuss her experiences during the production of the film. Ms. Holt played the wife of Troy Barrett, Treasury Agent (played by Gene Barry) in the 1958 film. The film will be shown at the Bee Tree Fire Station at 510 Bee Tree Road in Swannanoa. Sponsored by the Swannanoa Friends of the Library and the Friends of Buncombe County Libraries. For more information call the Swannanoa Library at 250-6486. Popcorn and drinks provided.

This sweet little 4-6 month old kitten was waiting in the parking lot when I arrived this morning. She howled until I got out of my car, and then she ran under the porch. I coaxed her out with some cat food (conveniently on hand from the library Meals on Wheels pet food drive) and let her hang out in our community room for a while. She really enjoyed relaxing on the table until one of our cat-loving patrons decided to take her home. Please contact the library if this is your missing kitty.

Join Carol Pimentel, local counselor, organizing consultant, and community advocate, as she leads you through a journey to rediscover the difference between money and true fulfillment.

Carol views over-consumption as a cultural addiction. She brings awareness to ways we unwittingly assume attitudes and beliefs about money that result in entrapment in a wheel of perpetual need to produce more income to feed consumerist habits.

Using the best-selling book Your Money or Your Life, by Joe Dominquez and Vick Robin, she provides tools to change your spending habits and your life for the better. You will learn how to:

Cut debt and develop savings
Determine how much is "enough" vs. habitually acquiring more
Reconsider your material priorities and live well for less
Clariry your values and align financial choices with this "bottom line"
Develop awareness about how your purchases impact the planet

Since 1980 The New Road Map Foundation has taught a nine step program for financial integrity. Over one million people have sought out this program, lowering their expenses by over 20%, eliminating debt and developing savings—and they feel better about their lives. They are living proof that a high quality of life doesn't rest on an ever-higher standard of consumption. Carol Pimentel is a volunteer speaker for the foundation.

Take Exit 59 (Swannanoa Exit)
Turn left at stop sign at end of ramp (Patton Cove Rd)
Proceed a couple of hundred yards to traffic light (Gas station across intersection)
Turn right (onto "new" Hwy 70)
Proceed to next traffic light
Turn left, go across bridge to yield sign
Turn right (onto "old" Hwy 70)
Proceed 3 or 4 tenths of a mile
Turn left onto Grovemont Ave. (Just past Texaco F&J convenience store on left)
Proceed 3 or 4 tenths of a mile, and you will come to Grovemont Square (grass field w/rock wall)
Library is at the opposite end of the Square - go around Square to the right
You have arrived! Library is red brick building adjacent to the playground

Please visit us at our year-round book sale in the basement of the Swannanoa Library. We have a great selection of books for all ages and interests, including hundreds of fiction hardcovers and paperbacks, and over 40 categories of non-fiction books.The book sale is open during regular library hours. Be sure to come by often - we stock new books on our shelves on a regular basis.

Most books, including hardcovers, are priced at $1.00 or less.

Book donations are welcome at any time.

Who We Are
The mission of the Friends of the Swannanoa Library is to increase awareness, use, and enjoyment of the Swannanoa Library and its surrounding park and playground facilities as a means of strengthening the community of Swannanoa. In support of this mission, the Friends will:

organize events and programs that draw the community to the library;
assist with improvement and maintenance of library facilities;
support the library staff;
partner with organizations and individuals in the community;
promote traditional and technological literacy;
raise funds; and advocate for the library at the local and state level.
